MECH Spotlight: Nikki Hallikas
1. Tell us a little about yourself – What’s your role at MTSI, and what team or project are you currently supporting?
I work within MTSI’s Talent Technology function, where I lead strategic initiatives that strengthen how our recruiting organization operates and scales as the company grows. My work focuses on improving the systems, data, and processes that drive our hiring efforts, whether it involves optimizing tools for recruiters or creating dashboards that give leadership clearer insights into hiring progress. The ultimate goal is to build high-performing teams by attracting exceptional talent who live our values and are dedicated to advancing our mission.
2. What’s your favorite part of MTSI’s culture?
The people, without question. Being an employee-owned company creates a real sense of pride in the work we do and the company’s success. You’re surrounded by people who genuinely care about doing great work and supporting the mission.
3. What is MTSI MECH and how are you involved?
MECH stands for MTSI Early Career Hub, and it’s all about helping early-career professionals connect and grow within the company. I helped launch the Alexandria chapter as a founding co-lead, and we focus on creating opportunities for professional development, social connection, and community volunteer efforts that bring people together beyond their day-to-day work. It’s been rewarding to see people build relationships and strengthen their connection to the broader MTSI community.
4. How has MTSI supported your growth as an early-career professional?
MTSI has given me the opportunity to wear multiple hats and take on projects that push me outside my comfort zone. I had the opportunity to support a high-priority staffing initiative for one of our key customers, which involved tracking hiring progress, analyzing pipeline data, and presenting weekly updates to both the customer and MTSI leadership. Being trusted with opportunities like this has helped me grow quickly and gain valuable insight into how large programs operate.
5. What advice would you give to someone just starting their career at MTSI?
Stay curious and raise your hand! Some of the best opportunities I’ve had here started because I asked questions or volunteered to help with something outside my normal role. If you stay curious and take the time to build relationships, you’ll learn quickly and find plenty of ways to make an impact.
