Small UAS (sUAS) Detect and Avoid (DAA)

Established sensors used for airborne detect and avoid are not scalable to the size, weight and power (SWaP) demands of small unmanned aircraft systems (sUAS). Current low-SWaP sensors developed for sUAS DAA are not meeting Well Clear (“Safe Separation”) detection range or field of view requirements to avoid non-cooperative (i.e., non-broadcasting) airspace intruders. MTSI developed a prototype capability and performed several flight tests to help tackle this challenge using our internally funded IRAD program.
